Couple dances: lindy hop

Lindy hop is an American dance which was born in Harlem, New York City in the beginning of 20th century. It has evolved since then with the jazz music of that time. It was very popular during the Swing era of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were popular during its development but is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston. It is frequently described as a jazz dance and is a member of the swing dance family.

In its development, the Lindy hop combined elements of both partnered and solo dancing by using the movements and improvisation of African-American dances along with more formal rhythm structure and partner connection of European partner dances.

We will teach you Lindy hop technique and variations, train your rhythm feel and put much emphasis on couple dance connection (leading and following). We will prepare you to be able freely improvise and enjoy dancing Lindy Hop.

  • For beginners or little experienced ones: course will start on October 1 and end on November 5. Classes will take place every Monday and every second Friday at 18.45 – 20.00 (7 classes and 2 dance events). Address: Miera street 64, Room 204. (Free parking available)
  • For experienced ones: course will start on September 15 and end on November 3 (these are 8 classes). Classes will take place every Saturday at 11.30 – 12.45. Address: Čaka street 91 (It is opposite to Ziedoņdārzs park, and the entrance is on the left from the inner yard).

The course costs 50 EUR per person. You can pay half at the beginning and other half in the middle of course if you prefer so.
